Absalom Jones Virtual Celebration
On Saturday, February 27, 2021, the legacy of Absalom Jones (first black Episcopal priest) continues with a virtual celebration hosted by the Diocese of Central Florida and Fr. John E. Culmer (Southwest Florida) Chapters of the Union of Black Episcopalians, in collaboration with the Bishop. E. Thomas Demby Chapter of the Diocese of West Tennessee and the Diocese of Atlanta Chapter. The event is co-sponsored by the Diocese of Atlanta, and is open to all.
The theme of the celebration is “Wake up, O sleepers, and rise! A Calling for Racial Reconciliation, Healing and Justice.”
The Rev. Victor J. Thomas, Rector of St. James Episcopal Church, Houston, will serve as the keynote speaker. Additionally, donations will be collected in support of the two remaining historically black Episcopal colleges, St. Augustine’s University and Voorhees College.
The program begins at 10:00 AM EST/9:00 AM CST and will be presented on Zoom.
