We have a deacon!

Dear All,

I am delighted to inform the parish that the diocese has assigned the Rev. Arthur Villarreal to serve as our deacon. Arthur will begin his time with us this Sunday, September 16. Arthur is a vocational deacon, which means he is a permanent deacon and not in transition to the priesthood.

Arthur received a Bachelor of Diaconal Studies from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific, and was ordained to the Diaconate in 2011. He has served previously at St. James, Macon, and Christ Church, Macon, and also as chaplain for the campus ministry at Mercer University. He works in Macon as a paralegal in the Chapter 13 Trustees’ office. Arthur is married to the Rev. Ben Wells who is Rector of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Macon.

Vocational deacons are the bridge from the church building to the outside world. Arthur will assist with the liturgy on Sundays, but his main role will be helping us to identify outreach opportunities within our community.

Please be sure to welcome Arthur as he joins us in our life together in Christ.

Blessings,
Lorna+
