Hurricane Harvey Relief
Many of us have been watching the awful scenes in Texas: so much damage to so many homes and businesses causing a huge amount of disruption and misery as the flooding continues.
There are several ways you can help. The Red Cross is a major organization that offers assistance in the wake of such disasters. You can contribute on line or by text.
Episcopal Relief and Development is our own relief organization that does wonderful work. Their website is http://www.episcopalrelief.org/hurricane-harvey-response
ERD has a fine reputation for making sure relief efforts reach those in most need, as they operate through the local churches in the afflicted areas.
Also, both the Diocese of West Texas and the Diocese of Texas are launching appeals for help, and we will publish details of those as they become available.
Please be generous in your support of those impacted by this terrible event, and keep both the victims and the first responders in your prayers.
Below is a prayer composed by Bishop Doyle of the Diocese of Texas.
Heavenly Father, in your Word you have given us a vision of that Holy City where the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea: Behold and visit, we pray, the cities of the earth devastated by Hurricane Harvey. Sustain those displaced by the storm with food, drink, and all other bodily necessities of life. We especially remember before you all poor and neglected persons it would be easy for us to forget: the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, and all who have none to care for them; that, among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, we may ever be defended by your gracious and ready help; through Jesus Christ our Lord. AMEN.
Blessings,
