Celebrate Christmas at St. Christopher's
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
It’s almost here! Christmas is just a few days away. Things are looking festive, including our nave here at St. Christopher’s. Many thanks to those who helped green the church last Sunday. Many hands made light work, and a good time was had by all.
We are just about ready for Christmas Eve. The bulletins are prepared, the altar guild have been busy polishing, and the flower guild awaits the arrival of the poinsettias. Now we await you and all who come to worship the newborn King.
Christmas Eve services are special for several reasons, and they are particularly suitable for children and for those who are not familiar with the faith. Consider the following reasons why this is so:
People hear the story read in an important way on the night it happened. Hearing the story of the birth of Jesus is like hearing the story of the night when you were born.
Going to church at night is a way of acting out the light shining in the darkness.
Being with a crowd telling the story reminds us that Christmas is for the whole world; we are part of something much bigger than ourselves.
Singing the carols gets the story into our hearts.
Finally, we are creating memories: memories of God’s work in the world, and in our lives.
I hope that you will attend either the 5:30 p.m. or 11 p.m. service, and also that you will invite family, friends, neighbors, and anyone you think may enjoy hearing the good news of Jesus. Most people are just waiting to be asked. Invite and welcome all to join us in worship on this glorious night when God came among us as a baby, when angels sang and the universe rejoiced!
Christmas blessings,
Lorna+
